Initial salary and advancements

Last updated : May 13, 2026

Article 24 of the CCT SAS 2025 sets out two simple rules that define salary progression over time: the initial classification on hiring and the pace of annual advancements.

Initial classification on hiring

In principle, on entering service the employee is classified at the starting seniority grade (0) of their career. However, if prior seniority is recognised in the same profession (see article 25), the employee starts directly at the corresponding grade.

Annual advancement

From the time of hiring, the employee advances by one seniority grade each year. The month for which the advancement is taken into account is each time the month following the month of the anniversary of their engagement.

Example: an employee hired on 15 March 2020 will see:

  • 1st April 2021 → move to grade 1;
  • 1st April 2022 → grade 2;
  • 1st April 2023 → grade 3; etc.

An employee hired in December will have their advancement fall each year in January of the following year.

Change of career while in employment

If the employee obtains a new diploma leading to classification in a higher career, they move to that new career at the precise level corresponding to the basic salary they would have received in the former career. Then, from the month following the anniversary of their initial notional start of career, they are classified at the immediately higher seniority grade. The measure has no retroactive effect.

If the application of the new rule were to result in less favourable pay, the employee retains their previous pay until the new arrangement becomes more advantageous.
